How to do it

  1. Rack the bar on the front of your shoulders with your elbows lifted so your upper arms are near parallel to the floor.
  2. Step out with your feet slightly wider than your hips and brace your core.
  3. Squat straight down, keeping your elbows high and your chest tall.
  4. Drive through your whole foot to stand up without letting your elbows drop.

Coaching cues

  • The bar sits on your shoulders, your fingers only steady it, so a loose grip is fine.
  • If your elbows drop, the bar will roll forward, so lighten the load and keep them up.
