How to do it

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip width apart and your hands on your hips.
  2. Step one foot straight back and lower until both knees are bent to about 90 degrees.
  3. Keep your front shin close to vertical and your torso upright.
  4. Push through the front foot to stand back up, then alternate legs.

Coaching cues

  • Let the back knee hover just above the floor rather than banging it down.
  • Touch a wall with your fingertips if your balance is wobbly at first.
