How to do it

  1. Stand facing a stable box or step that puts your thigh near parallel when your foot is on it.
  2. Place one whole foot on the box and shift your weight over it.
  3. Push through that foot to stand tall on the box, letting the other leg follow without pushing off the floor.
  4. Step back down under control with the same leg leading, then repeat or alternate.

Coaching cues

  • Use a lower box if you have to lunge off the back foot to get up.
  • Control the way down, that is where most of the strength is built.
