How to do it

  1. Lie on your back on the floor with your knees bent and a dumbbell in each hand at chest height.
  2. Press the dumbbells up until your arms are straight over your chest.
  3. Lower under control until the backs of your upper arms touch the floor.
  4. Pause for a moment, then press back up without bouncing off the floor.

Coaching cues

  • The floor limits the range, which is useful if a full bench press bothers your shoulders.
  • Keep your wrists stacked over your elbows the whole way.
