How to do it

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat, hip width and close to your hips.
  2. Tuck your ribs down and press your lower back gently toward the floor.
  3. Drive through your heels to lift your hips until your knees, hips and shoulders form a straight line.
  4. Squeeze your glutes at the top for a second, then lower under control.

Coaching cues

  • Push the hips up with your glutes, not by arching your lower back.
  • If your hamstrings cramp, walk your feet slightly closer to your hips.
