How to do it

  1. Sit on a mat with your front leg bent to 90 degrees in front of you and your back leg bent to 90 degrees out to the side.
  2. Sit tall on both sit bones with your hands on the floor for support.
  3. Lean your chest gently over the front shin until you feel a stretch in the outside of that hip.
  4. Hold for the set time, then rotate your knees across to switch to the other side.

Coaching cues

  • Sit on a folded towel or cushion if you cannot sit upright on the floor.
  • Keep both shins pressed lightly into the mat instead of letting the back leg drift.
