How to do it

  1. Stand tall with your feet together and your toes pointing forward.
  2. Take a wide step to one side and push your hips back as that knee bends.
  3. Keep the other leg straight and both feet flat, lowering until you feel a stretch in the straight leg.
  4. Push off the bent leg to return to standing, then alternate sides.

Coaching cues

  • Sit back into the hip rather than letting the bent knee dive forward.
  • Take a smaller step at first and build the range as your hips loosen up.
