How to do it
- Set the bar in a smith machine at about hip height and lock it in place.
- Lie underneath and grip the bar slightly wider than your shoulders with straight arms.
- Squeeze your glutes so your body is one straight line from heels to head.
- Pull your chest to the bar, then lower under control until your arms are straight.
Coaching cues
- Raise the bar to make it easier and lower it to make it harder.
- Bend your knees and plant your feet if the straight-leg version is too hard.
