How to do it
- Stand tall with your feet hip width apart, optionally with your fingertips on a wall for balance.
- Press through the balls of your feet to lift your heels as high as they will go.
- Pause for a second at the top with your ankles straight, not rolled out.
- Lower slowly until your heels touch the floor again.
Coaching cues
- Stand with the balls of your feet on a step to get a deeper stretch at the bottom.
- Slow the lowering to about three seconds, calves respond well to time under tension.
